Personal Training in Maryville, TN

Personalized strength and movement training that works with your body, your health history, and your daily life — not against them.

Not all personal training is the same. A random program pulled from the internet doesn't know about your bad knee, your recent surgery, your chronic disease diagnosis, or the fact that you haven't exercised in ten years. It doesn't care if your goal is to run a 5K or just get off the floor without help. And it definitely doesn't integrate what's happening in your mind with what's happening in your body.

That's the difference with my approach. As an ACSM Certified Personal Trainer with 13+ years of experience — including extensive work with clients navigating cancer, Parkinson's, ALS, post-surgical recovery, and mental health challenges — I build programs that start where you are. Not where a fitness algorithm thinks you should be.

What Makes This Approach Different

There are a lot of personal trainers. Here's what sets my approach apart:

•      Mind-body integration — every session builds awareness of how your body moves and why, not just how much weight you can lift

•      Adaptive by design — programs built around your health history, limitations, and goals from the first session forward

•      Whole-person approach — I work with your medical team's guidance, not isolated from it

•      13+ years of specialized experience with complex health conditions, not just healthy athletes

•      ACSM certification — the gold standard in exercise science. We use evidence-based methods, not fitness trends

Above all, we maintain a judgment-free environment whether you're a beginner or returning after years away.

Who Personal Training Sessions Are For

People Managing Chronic Illness or Health Conditions

Exercise is medicine, but only when it's prescribed correctly. I have extensive experience designing programs for clients living with cancer, Parkinson's disease, ALS, neurological conditions, cardiovascular issues, and mental health challenges. We work within your medical team's guidelines, move at your pace, and prioritize how you feel today — not how you feel compared to some idealized standard.

Post-Surgery or Injury Recovery

Returning to movement after surgery or injury requires patience, precision, and someone who knows how to progress safely. We focus on rebuilding functional strength, restoring range of motion, and rebuilding your confidence in what your body can do without pushing into territory that sets your recovery back.

People Who Want to Feel Stronger and More Capable in Daily Life

You don't have to be training for a marathon or a bodybuilding competition to benefit from personal training. If you want to carry groceries without pain, keep up with your grandkids, climb stairs without dreading it, or simply feel more at home in your body, that's a worthy goal and one I take just as seriously as any athletic one.

Active Adults and Athletes Wanting to Optimize Performance

Already fit and looking to get stronger, move more efficiently, or address imbalances before they become injuries? Functional training that integrates mind-body awareness builds a different kind of strength than conventional gym work, one that is more durable, more adaptable, and more useful across the full range of what life asks you to do.

Training With a Friend: Buddy Training

Prefer to work out with a friend, partner, or family member? Buddy Training is available for pairs who want to share the experience and the motivation, with programs designed to challenge both of you appropriately, regardless of different fitness levels or goals.

What to Expect in Personal Training Sessions

Your first session starts with a conversation, not a workout. I want to understand your health history, your goals, what's worked and what hasn't, and what you're hoping your body will be able to do. Then we move carefully, purposefully, and at a pace that respects where you are today.

Every program combines functional strength training, mobility work, and mind-body awareness so you're building a more intelligent, resilient relationship with how your body moves. Sessions evolve as you do, progressively challenging you in ways that keep results coming without risking injury or burnout.

Sessions are available:

Your Personal Trainer

I'm Ri — ACSM Certified Personal Trainer with 13+ years of experience, certified meditation and breathwork coach, and board member of the Community Yoga Center in Maryville, TN. My approach to personal training is rooted in the belief that body and mind are not separate projects — and that sustainable, meaningful fitness change happens when we treat them that way. I've worked with clients across the full health spectrum, and I bring the same level of attention, adaptability, and respect to every single one of them.

FAQs

I haven't exercised in years. Is it too late to start?

1

It is never too late. Some of the most meaningful progress I've seen has been with clients who came in convinced they'd left it too long. The body is remarkably adaptable at every age. We'll start where you are — not where you think you should be — and build from there.

I have a health condition. Can I still do personal training?

2

In most cases, yes — and for many conditions, appropriate exercise is genuinely therapeutic. I have 13+ years of experience training clients with cancer, Parkinson's, ALS, cardiovascular conditions, neurological disorders, and mental health challenges. I work within your medical team's guidelines and adapt every session to what your body needs that day. If you're unsure whether personal training is appropriate for your specific situation, a consultation is the right place to start.

What's the difference between personal training here and at a regular gym?

3

Two main things: personalization and integration. A gym trainer often runs clients through similar programs with surface-level adjustments. Here, your program is built entirely around you — your health history, your goals, your nervous system, your life. And because I'm also a meditation and breathwork coach, I integrate mind-body awareness into physical training in a way that most fitness environments simply don't offer.

Can I do personal training virtually?

4

Yes — virtual personal training via Zoom is available and works well for a wide range of goals and fitness levels. You'll need a stable internet connection and a small amount of clear floor space. Equipment requirements depend on your goals and will be discussed in your first session.

What should I bring or wear to my first session?

5

Comfortable clothes you can move in freely, supportive athletic shoes, and a water bottle. If you have any medical documents, recent lab results, or a list of medications that might be relevant to exercise, it's helpful to have those on hand for our initial conversation.

Do you work with clients who want to lose weight?

6

I work with clients who want to feel stronger, more functional, and more at home in their bodies — which often includes weight loss as a goal. My approach focuses on building sustainable, healthy movement habits rather than punishing workouts designed purely to burn calories. If body composition is part of your goal, we can absolutely address it in a way that respects your body and supports your long-term health.
